The 19th
Annual
Georgia State Championship/Highland Marina Invitational Bass Fishing Tournament
also known as the "Tournament of Champions" was held on West Point Lake November
4th and 5th, 2006.
This year we had 300 teams from 8
States who competed for over $80,000 in cash and prizes.
43 teams won cash awards. First place for this years event was raised
again to
$35,000!
We moved the tournament up a few weeks hoping to get better
weather, just our luck we had a cold front come in putting blast-off temperatures
in the lower 30's which made the fishing patterns tough to figure out.
The team of
Jim Windham from Bonaire Georgia & Greg Barwick from Dublin Georgia who
finished 5th last year, came
out on top this year by staying consistent both days. They weighed in 17lb
12oz on
the first day (they were in 2nd place) and came in on day 2 with 15lb 15oz. They took home the $35,000 first place
cash for their awesome total weight of 33lb 11oz.
Husband & wife team of
Jeanne & Jimmy Millsaps from Canton Gerogia
finished
second for the second year in a row and have been in the top 10
almost every year that they have fished. This weekend they weighed in a
two day total of 25lb 7oz and took home $10,000 for their efforts.
Local fishermen
Greg Williamson & Glenn Goodson both from LaGrange
Georgia
took third place and earned $6,100 for their two day five fish limit weighing 23lb
15oz.
Fourth place went to
Lamonte Walters from Warner Robins Georgia & Steve Chatham
from Dallas Georgia They earned $5,100 for their two day five fish limit that weighed in at
23lb 4oz. - they also earned an extra $1,500 for their nice 8lb 4oz big fish on
day one which helped to put them in the lead on day one. Fifth place went to the team of
Nicklous Robinson & Brandon Abney both from Lanett Alabama
who took home $3,100
with a two day total of 23lbs. 2oz., just one ounce out of fourth place.
Thirteenth
Place finishers
Michael Millsaps from Cartersville Georgia and Joseph Renfroe from Jasper
took home the big fish pot of $1,500 for day 2 with their nice 7lb 13oz
Largemouth bringing their total winnings to
$2,460. The envious "Guppy Awards"
which is the award is for the smallest weight each day and $100 for the achievement. This years awards went to the team of
Clifford & Denise Marshall on day 1 for an
impressive 13 ounce spotted bass. Day 2 winners
Danny & Andy Jackson culled one fish in order to win this award and almost broke the
scales with an unbelievable 14 ounce spotted bass!
Thanks to all of the great fishermen & women who fished this
event this year and through-out the years. See everyone next year for
number 20.
