The 20th
Annual
Georgia State Championship/Highland Marina Invitational Bass Fishing Tournament
also known as the "Tournament of Champions" was held on West Point Lake November
3rd and 4th, 2007.
This year we had 218 teams from 5
States who competed for over $70,000 in cash and prizes.
31 teams won cash awards. First place for this years event was
$35,000!
Despite extremely low lake levels and added complications to
coordinating this years event we had a very successful 20th anniversary.
Weights on day one were light which kept all of the teams in contention for day
two, and the big fish showed up for the second day.
The team of
Jason Grantham & Jamie Martin
weighed in 11lb 15oz on
the first day and came in on day two with the largest bag of the tournament of 15lb 11oz. They took home the $35,000 first place
cash for their hard won total weight of 27lb 10oz. They also took home an
extra $1,090 on day two with their 7lb 12oz big fish for that day and the
biggest fish of this years event.
Long time competitors Mike Jones & Glenn
Miller
fished up
the river (not an easy task at 13' below full pool) and finished
second this weekend with a
two day total of 24lb 7oz and took home $8,000 for their efforts.
Third Place went to
Steve Douglas & Ted Gambrell
they earned $3,000 for their two day five fish limit weighing 23lb
12oz.
Fourth place went to
Mike Squires & Billy Joyce who were leading
the pack on day one with 13lb 6oz and came in on day two with 9lb 8oz leaving
them with a total of 22lb 14oz. and a $1,000 payday. Fifth place went to the team of
Tim Morris & Reid Hurston
who took home $900
with a two day total of 22bs. 8oz
The team of
David Huie & Roland Tyner
finished just out of the money at 34th place but
took home the big fish pot of $1,090 for day 1 with their nice 6lb 14oz
Largemouth. The envious "Guppy Award"
(which is the award for the smallest weight each day) gives bragging rights to
it's winners and an extra $100 per day. this years awards went to the team of
Larry McMannus & Eric Slauson who had two fish in
the boat but culled and estimated 14oz fish in order to weigh in a nice 13 ounce spotted bass
to win on day one. Day two winners Johnathan & Chuck
Dalton culled two other fish in order to win the award and almost broke the
scales with an unbelievable 11 ounce spotted bass!
Thanks to all of the great fishermen & women who fished this
event this year and through-out the years. See everyone next year for
number 21.
